The patent titled ‘Surface Finishing’ revealed how Apple might change the appearance of the glass surface of the future iPhone model, creating a rainbow effect on the device. The patent also mentions the use of numerically controlled computers (CNC) to create a gradation display on the surface of the device that changes the way light reflects off the product. Not using sandblasting techniques, Apple will use ceramic beads to produce a colour shift that will appear when the device is moved. Based on the iPhone model launch cycle, Apple was supposed to redesign the smartphone device in 2019, and that is likely to include the use of changing colour gradations for the iPhone next year.
