With the screen edges that have to be smaller and smaller – that’s how manufacturers think at least – it’s harder to simply scrape away some edges. In most cases, space is still needed to place the camera and other sensors, for example. OPPO and Vivo have already come up with a solution: camera modules that can slide out of the housing with an engine. With the solution that Lenovo is now proposing, we go back a bit in time: slider phones are apparently again trendy… or so the manufacturers think about it anyway. On Thursday (1/11/2018), Lenovo came up with the Z5 Pro, a successor to the Lenovo Z5 that came on the market earlier this year. The Z5 turned out to be a big disappointment by the larger screen edges than Lenovo wanted us to suspect with the scattered renders. Let’s delve deeper to learn what this device has to offer.
Lenovo Z5 Pro Quick Review!
With the Z5 Pro this does not seem to be the case, the device contains a 6.39-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080x2340P, would you calculate that you would end up with a screen ratio of 19.5:9. According to the Chinese manufacturer, the screen-to-body ratio is around 95.06 percent. The probability that this actually works is rather small – such a percentage looks good on paper, but often it is still lower in practice. That is not what makes the phone so special. To return to the screen first, there is still a fingerprint scanner. Lenovo is not indicated by which manufacturer the scanner is, but Goodix’s Twitter account shows that the manufacturer supplied the scanner to Lenovo. OnePlus, just like the OPPO and Vivo, uses the Goodix scanner for the OnePlus 6T.
— Goodix (@GoodixTech) November 1, 2018 Whether it is the same scanner, that is not clear. Besides the fingerprint scanner under the screen, the Lenovo Z5 Pro has something special. To bring out the sensors and camera sensors for the necessary selfies, you have to slide the screen down. Unlike the engine of the OPPO Find X is that with Lenovo’s Z5 Pro is not present, you physically push the module up and down. Saves a motor that could fail…
Finally, the ‘normal’ specifications must of course also be mentioned. For example, the Lenovo Z5 Pro includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC with 6GB of RAM, an option with more RAM is not available. Furthermore, there is a choice of 64 and 128 GB of internal storage. Lenovo’s Z5 Pro contains a decent battery with a 3,350 mAh capacity. All in all, it is a relatively heavy device of 210 grams, possibly that is caused by the construction to make it a slider phone.
