Earlier this year, Google released Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) in an effort to solve performance problems on smartphones in the entry-level segment. This operating system comes with a similar look from the regular Google Android 8.1 Oreo version. The Go Edition version only uses half of the device storage space when compared to the regular version. Following up on the release of the latest operating system, Android 9 Pie, Google also announced the availability of the Go Edition version of the operating system called Android 9 Pie (Go Edition). This new version has a number of improvements. For example, this operating system consumes 500MB less storage space. The storage space consumption allows the 8GB capacity device to have 5.5GB of storage space remaining. For comparison, the regular version of Android 9 Pie consumes large amounts of storage space, leaving only 2.5GB of space.

In addition, this new software is also capable of offering faster boot times and armed with higher security-related capabilities for its users. To cover the main needs of entry-level users, this operating system version is also equipped with a dashboard to monitor data consumption. Just like the Go Edition version of Android 8.1 Oreo, the Android 9 version of Pie also actively utilizes Google’s Go Edition application, which Google calls it regularly. Even the Android version of the Go Message application is now half the regular version. Meanwhile, Google Assistant Go has received updates containing support for various new languages such as Spanish and Portuguese. In addition, Google has also increased the ability of Go Maps, which is now supported by navigation capabilities. Currently, Google has not revealed the exact launch date for Android 9 Pie (Go Edition), although it has confirmed that this lightweight version of the operating system will be announced next fall. Google also confirmed that more than 100 manufacturers planned to release new devices based on Android Go.
